Stepping Stones

The sun was shining, I had a few days off of work after a hectic bank holiday, & I hadn't seen my good friend Anna is way too long for my liking.

I drove over to Anna's house in Leicestershire and picked her up for some much needed catch up time. After a few minutes of gushing and emotional hugs, we hopped back into the car to trundle off for some lunch.
For the locals, there is one pub which is hidden away from the general go-to scene and a firm favourite by all.

The Neville Arms in Medbourne is a delightful pub that has a charming little cafe on the patio round the back of an ancient arch.
We both ordered some Belvoir presses and our lunch before continuing with our catch ups.
Holidays, boyfriends, university... You name it, we spent a good few hours talking about it!

Before long our delicious summery food had arrived in record timing.
Anna plumped for the prawn & crayfish summer salad with acocado, topped with some marie-rose sauce and fresh bread of course.

Whereas I stepped it up a notch by ordering the fish platter, this was basically the same but with the addition of some thick, juicy smoked salmon.
I was a very, very happy girl.

Having devoured all of our lunches and chatted for a good few hours, Anna and I headed round to the front of the pub, Pimms in hand, to enjoy the sunshine a little bit more than on the patio.

But this was no ordinary pub setting.
This delightful pub has a river, a wooden bridge, and stepping stones to keep you company along side the river bank.
This is what I adore about the place that I live, this sought of delightful country side scene is common amongst the whole county. There are gems to be found everywhere!

We tried to be lady like and sit on the wooden picnic benches for a while, but before too long temptation had us hooked.
Within 10 minutes, the shoes were abandoned.

Yep! We were joining in with the little children who were fishing with their nets and dunking their feet in the cool, refreshing water.
The perfect solution on a surprisingly warm summers day!

I simply adore Anna's trousers from Joules, (which are actually set up and based just down the road), I might need to see if I can pick up a pair in the sale!

I want to say I'm sorry for so many stream shots...
But I'm not, I just don't think any shot I took did the view any justice.

We had the whole river bank to ourselves for a good hour, the calmness of the water, the beauty of having a bestie by your side, and the sweetness of the Pimms just made this day so relaxing and refreshing.
A catch up with friends is always a winner, but the setting was just the cherry on top of the cake!

We were joined by this little fella, who seemed cute at first...

But then he decided to shake all over us, just our luck!
There was also a slight wasp situation that proved to be a nightmare, but we managed to battle them off!

Oh the Neville Arms. Such a stunning settle with a wonderful friend.
The perfect day off of work, and a great replacement after working all bank holiday.
I wish all summer days could be as wonderful as this!

I really want to do something like that, travelling round the UK going to lovely little pubs and restaurants in gorgeous settings. Sometimes London can get a little samey!! :)

  9. You've really given me a hankering for crayfish!
Good thing I'm having fish for dinner!
That red brick house looks idyllic with those beautiful windows. My best friend's grandparents used to have a stream just like that going through the bottom of their garden, and the bank was so steep that they hung a swing from a tree branch making it the perfect place for us when we were tiny!
