The Edinburgh Weekender

The other weekend, I hopped on a train the whole way up to Edinburgh to see one of my dearest friends, Katie. She's currently finishing her final year up in the north & we thought it was about time I trekked over the wall & up into the frosty lands of Scotland.

Bombay Sapphire Botanical Beauty Series

Gin is my kryptonite.
There is nothing I love more than coming home from work on a Friday and having a cool, strong G&T. So naturally, when I was asked if I'd like to go along to the world's number one premium gin company, Bombay Sapphire's, newest venture; I leapt at the chance!

Bombay Sapphire's Botanical Beauty Series with Wardian London is an absolute must for anyone that has a soft spot for gin.
After work, I quickly dashed back home for a quick turn around before hopping in a taxi to Canary Wharf.
Now any Londoner knows that Canary Wharf is the working hub of London. It's famous for its offices, business attitude and high rise buildings. Imagine my amazement when I arrive to find a rather unusual location for some gin tasting...

It's not you, it's me...

Well.. It's been a while hasn't it?
I'm sorry. It's not you, it's me.
The pressure of a new job, London life, & everything in between meant blogging took a back seat.

26 Grains, Neal's Yard

There's so many spots in London that I'm still dying to visit.
I've only been here for a few weeks, and whilst I'd love to dive head first into the London food scene, my budgets and jeans wouldn't allow it if I tried. So in the meantime, I'm picking and choosing where to visit whilst developing a huge list of places I'm desperate to hit up. (And yes, I'm cool enough to even have it colour coded!)

The Breakfast Club, Battersea

Hello, hello!
Sorry the blog's been a bit quiet lately. In the space of two weeks I managed to land a job in central London, find a flat & am just about to start my fourth week of work. Needless to say, it's been manic! So bear with me. Service will now (hopefully) continue as normal except instead of  being Leeds based, London is now going to be my new backdrop.
Hoo-Bloody-Rah.
And what better way to kick off the new London life than with a breakfast spot I've been wanting to try for yonks?

Eton Mess Cake

Whilst the British weather might be far from summery; today I'm going to pretend that I'm soaking up some rays in the garden, watching Wimbledon, and snacking on Pimms with a slice of cake.

How on earth have I got this old so quickly!?!

Unfortunately this is my last blog post on the beautiful city of Madrid. *Sob*
But, what better way to kick it off than with a jaw dropping brunch?!

Madrid, Part 2

After a rather late night in Madrid, Katie & I awoke in the sweltering heat. Katie had heard of a big food market in the Plaza Matadero in the afternoon & so we decided to have a lazy morning wandering round the local area, Malasana.

Madrid, Part 1

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see that I've been a bit of a tourist lately.

One of my best friends Katie, (who runs Katie's Kitchen Journal- check it out- it's epic), has lived on a year abroad in Madrid for a year as part of her degree. With her accommodation not running out until the end of summer, it seemed silly to not pop over with a cheap flight for a few days.
I was promised damn good food, a blistering heat, and a beautiful city. Winning!

It's going to be an emotional one.

Jammy Butterfly Cakes

Whilst baking a new recipe is always exciting, sometimes you really can't beat the classics.
And you really can't get more classic and simple than butterfly cakes.

Roundhay Park, Leeds

Just a pretty picture post today.
Everything's pretty busy in Leeds as everyone is out celebrating this weekend before returning home for good. *Sob*.
Luckily the weather is glorious and so a group of us went along to Roundhay Park for a picnic. (Sorry we ate all the food before I could get my camera out. Whoops.)

Almost Famous, Leeds

If you couldn't tell by my blog already, I love a good burger.
Getting the perfect combination is a fine art and the vendors in Leeds I'd argue are some of the best in the UK. With the likes of Boss Burger, Patty Smiths, Meat Liquor & Get Baked (which I am definitely trying this week), finding your fix for some juicy meat and squidgy buns isn't hard.
Almost Famous is up with the best & after hearing so much about them and sampling some of their mini sliders at the Leeds Food & Drink Festival press launch, we couldn't help but visit their main restaurant.

Hotel Chocolat Cook Book Launch

This week the masterminds behind Roast + Conch, Hotel Chocolat's exceptional restaurant, held a special event for the launch of their new cookbook.
I've heard so much positivity about their food and how they use cocoa in ways that you wouldn't ever think possible, so I of course leapt at the invitation to join.

Leeds Food & Drink Festival Launch

Leeds is a growing hotspot of the north of England and it seems to be filled with an infinite number of foodies as of late, ( I know I had a gut feeling about the university for a reason!)
There's so much going on in the next few weeks that the diet just has to be thrown out of the window. On Thursday I was very kindly invited along to the press launch of the Leeds Food & Drink Festival at Epernay Bar in the city centre.

Ice Scoop, Leeds

Well, it's been a while hasn't it?
Apologies. I've been so engulfed with everything uni related as I finish, (yes... FINISH!?) two weeks today. Crumbs. And I highly doubt that library sessions, job searches and nights out are hardly what you lot fancy seeing. Anyway, I promise the good old stuff is on its way back soon.

So imagine this post as a warm up, a little teaser if you will, to warm me back up to the world of blogging. (How I've been missing it, reading everyone's posts and talking to you all!)

Catfish & Online Identity

I think this is probably one of the oddest blog posts that I've ever written or will ever write...
For anyone that doesn't know about 'catfishing' (as defined by Urban Dictionary or as seen on the MTV show, Catfish), this is when:

" A Catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances."

So, why am I bringing this up? Seems a lil random, huh?

A Lil' Catch Up

 Hello, hello.
It's been a while hasn't it?
Apologies for the delay in posts, my dissertation deadline is on Tuesday so until then the Duchess of Devonshire & 18thC newspapers are basically my life.
But, I thought I'd show you a couple of snaps to let you know what I've been up to in the meantime...

Feeling Glorious

Apologies for the delay in posts... Rather excitingly, I've just returned from my holiday so I'm currently sprawled across my sofa absolutely shattered and flicking through photos with post skiing depression. It's killing me.
Anyway, I've been meaning to put up this post for a while as it really is something to shout about!

Life Lately

Hello, hello!
I'm so sorry the blog's been a bit quiet as of late. After all of the amazing 21st celebrations, I had to play catch up and knuckle down with some dissertation work & sifting through hundreds of 18thC newspapers. (Joy of joys!)
I've got some blog posts in the pipeline so service will resume as normal from this week.
But in the meantime, to show you all that I'm still alive & kicking, here's life lately through the lens of my iPhone....

Turning 21: Part 2, The Olive Branch

Whilst I spent this day having an absolute blast with my direct family and friends, I of course needed to spend some time and celebrate with the rest of my family.

Whilst I always have a blast, this year was a biggie... This year it was my 21st.

For weeks and weeks I have heard about Ecco Pizza.
I've seen my house mates empty pizza boxes, the looks of blissful content on their faces, and the endless stories about their drool worthy creations.
So, when I was asked along to their bloggers evening the other week, I lept at the chance to attend.

Sites That I Love Surfing

We all do it, some days more than others.
You've got an essay/piece of work due, but, what do we all inevitably do for five or 10 minutes?
Procrastinate.
But, one thing that I have learnt from my uni degree, is how to kick yourself out of it. Those 30-40 minutes I spent in first year has been batted down to only 5-10 and the internal motivation to work heightened. (Which is especially needed when you only have 4 contact hours a week in uni!)

Jamie's Italian, Leeds

I've been wanting to visit Jamie's for absolutely ages.
I'm a huge fan of the chef anyway and have most of his books. (My two favourites are the 'The Ministry of Food' which is amazing for basic, homey recipes and student living on a tight budget, and 'Comfort Food' which is just drool worthy!)
Anyhow, after years of lusting when I walked past its doors on a weekly basis, and hearing numerous ace reviews, it was finally time to give it a spin myself.
Better late than never!
