Val Thorens, 2015

"In the mountains, there you feel free"

Ahhh....
As I sit here back in Leeds attempting to write my dissertation, I'm sighing with post ski trip depression.
I thought it was about time I share with you a few photos from my recent trip to Val Thorens, as part of my university 'Leeds Snowriders' trip. I went last year and made sure that I was first in line for sign ups this time around, it truly has been a place where some of my best university memories will be fondly remembered.
Whilst I didn't take my pro camera this year for fears of it's demise, I've still got some pretty good iPhone shots worth sharing.

My friend Belle & I made the most of the week, eating our body weight in French baguettes and a block of brie a day between two. (God I love brie...)
Before waking up every morning to this wondrous sight right outside our window...

We joined our room mates, Martha & Gabbi, as we ventured all over the Three Valleys (sometimes in glorious bluebird skies and other times in thick, blinding cloud cover.)

Of course, the Bridget Jones style of skiing was out in full force...

But of course, we always stopped off in lunch spots with spectacular views and people watched as we nibbled on our freshly made packed lunches.

And for anyone who has never been skiing, there is no better feeling than swishing down powder stricken slopes with bluebird skies and an enormous grin on your face.
It's just... Bliss.

So each and every day we skied right from when the first chairlift opened at 9.30 until après started at 4pm. Yes, it was a student trip and we loved a good night out too, but we were there to ski and by George we were going to make the most of it!

But, après was without a doubt one of my favourite parts of the trip.

Situated in either La Folie Douce or Bar 360 (our personal favourite), it was two hours of some seriously great music, dancing on tables and having an ace time with your friends in a spectacular setting.

Also, dancing in ski boots is also a lot harder than it looks... You end up doing an awkward sort of 'bob' up and down as your feet have lead like weights on them.

There was also a pretty interesting music festival going on whilst we were there so fancy dress and crazy costumes were all over the place. (Personal favourites have to go out to the Darth Vader and Lego Men costumes!)

And there you have it.
My week in Val Thorens very briefly summed up.
We skied hard and partied hard until we collapsed on the long 24 hour bus trip on the return.
It was an incredible week where I met some brilliant people and had the time of my life....

As my trip wristband says, 'in the mountains, there you feel free', and I honestly couldn't agree more.
How I wish that week could have been infinitely longer...

  1. So jealousss right now! Looks like you had an amazing time :) I missed out on Snowbombing last year, i'd only just met my bf so was a little soon to barge in on his holiday haha. Hopefully i'll get to experience skiing in the Alps one day as it looks fantastic. Did you get chronic leg muscle soreness? x

  5. I've heard sooo many good things about Snowbombing & quite a few of my friends went.... If only I didn't have a dissertation to complete :( Seriously can't recommend it enough, definitely go at some point Charlotte, it feels like my home away from home I love it so much... No chronic leg soreness, just tiredness. But that could be because we only got a few hours sleep every night! (Worth it though, ski hard, party hard, die of exhaustion the week after!) xx

  8. Looks like you had so much fun- very impressed by the quality of the photography mid-ski! My one regret is not joining Snowrdiers when I was at Leeds, I'll never forget the time you all trashed the hotel bar I was working at. Inspirational.
